Sky

In moments of seclusion, I considered
a life unbound by any secrets,
so not depending
on strings of tension and release for its excitement,
but rather, wedded to the infinite,
cleaving to the swift extending Spirit,
feeling the rush and sparkle  of its fine awareness,
unimagined opening of eyes
in moving
from realms of atmosphere
into the realm of sky.

Free

Consider who you are,
the strength and grace comprising you,
your power and tenacity,
your will to live

Then you can know for sure
you have no obligation
to settle any scores,
to have reactions  –
don’t need to fix things
before you have the freedom
to stretch out, confident, into your being

Your integrity is your imperative
and it doesn’t wait
for vectors to align,
for others to act first.
You’re free to be completely true
to what you are. You’re free
to learn and do it every day.

Boxes

It’s understandable if you decide
to step into the box offered,
draw your feet in, curl up
to find the comfort of a safe place

The daily roads have many boxes,
different places, different shapes and sizes,
some for you, some not,
(the choices fewer when you look closer)

But you could also choose
to be defined  by where you walk,
and how you open out each day,
and how your deep hope carries you
to broader, ever unconfining, views.

Free to ring

Little one, today you are free
of the choice you made
so long ago, when your body
was way too small
for such decision
and you were way too new
for that kind of burden

It was a lie, the need to choose  –
you really could have had
all the good, and you still can –
you are free from every threatened consequence

You always have been a clear chime,
and no slipped felt could ever dull your tone.
Today, you can feel your full resonance,
today you are free to ring.

Footsteps

There’s what you intuit
and how you pursue it,
the stuff that would block you
and how you move through it

The choice day by day
to be free from enslavement,
the  vigilant struggle,
once free, to remain so

You can’t have an enemy
without being one.
You can’t be a light
without sharing it.

You can’t understand
the goodness of creation
without knowing
how good you are yourself.

Anew

The sun and wind rest on my skin
like absolution,
the memory of fear of fire receding,
and in the place of what has burned away,
I’m walking in this newly minted freedom

Beyond all words for this, the sense
that passing through
is worth whatever’s lost, and all it cost me,
and here the holiness of  being born anew
completely has outshone what I had called me

There is no going back,
for nothing past remains –
my feet step, awed,
on new terrain.

Fluidity

A thought flows through itself,
turns inside out,
becomes something else,
like the swoop of a swallow
banking on the wind,
delivering the long sought,
dearly tasted
(in pre-birth memory)
freedom
that can only be defined
in this fluidity –
not in options for future actions
but in the essence which,
like water,
is innately unconfined.

Liberation

It takes us so long
to recognize our freedom,
so well we have been trained
to look at all the reasons we are bound,
all the chains, all the conditions,
everything we think we’d have to do
to get free

And what else makes it hard
is having no idea
how we are strung along like puppets,
prods within our heads
we’re made to think are our own impulse,
fears we’re made to hold to as our own

Yet freedom comes.
There is no choice – its dawn
has already rolled in,
the light too strong
to let us dream for too much longer

We claim the truth,
for it is ours,
and all the complex plots dissolve,
and we step out, unbound,
to claim our own.

Always Here

What does it take
for me to fathom
that freedom is mine,
is ours, for the taking?

That no condition can hold us hostage,
that no concerted cavalcade of lies
can mask the present sovereignty of truth?

What does it take to notice
how, in transformation, nothing changes?
how, rather, it’s a shift in focus that reveals
what always has been real
and always here.
