The law of presence

Something that does not exist
cannot be shattered

High horse of my positions,
brittle presuppositions,
self justified opinions
don’t need to fall in shards about my feet

Look at this tender dissolution,
silent, swift dispersal
of all of those illusions –
the sure fulfillment
of the law of presence
which holds me ever safe
here in my truth.

Reconsider

These patterns  – shards from a broken dome,
sharp edges of shattered expectations,
point to places ripe for change

This problem was never
as contiguous as I thought,
and my habitual reaction
is not the only way to be

I reconsider  –
no need to be soft and cut and sobbing,
no need to bleed, waiting to be saved,
that which can shatter
has never been the truth,
that which is helpless
has never actually been me.

Climbing

There is no magic elevator
to lift you from the pit –
you must climb out,
handhold by foothold

It’s not enough that you have tried,
proven that you know
how to grasp the rocks –
every elevation must be gained

But there’s a secret sustenance  –
you’ll feel it as you climb –
your hands, your feet, your breath
will send the message

The life power of your movement
will fill you
with more of the same,
increasing steadily,
up the rough terrain.

Threads

Teach me what to give up
and what to hold on to –
these things get so tangled
in the day to day of interaction –
threads of care with threads of
false responsibility,
desire for healing
with efforts to instruct
and I just need
everything to come clear –
to throw it all away
and let You hold
the threads that count.

My Father’s world

I must remind myself
my Father’s world is kinder
than the one that I grew up in  –
my failures, glaring though they are
do not require an unrelenting penance

I need only turn –
my honest self awaits,
humble and attentive and responsive,
wholly furnished and appointed
to reflect.

Go ahead

Go ahead, take it –
take the empowerment  –
you’ll like the way it feels –
it’s definitely worth it
to ditch the victimhood
and the self justification

Take the empowerment  –
it’s worth the humbleness it takes
to toss off how you’ve framed yourself before  –
I promise you’ll enjoy it,
and you’ll feel much more
like how you always sensed
that you could be.

Kites

The paths they each were taking
couldn’t be seen on the surface,
couldn’t be seen by each other
or even by themselves

They swooped and soared like kites,
and you might think they were governed
by the wind. But all the while
they felt the tug beneath,
the anchored place that didn’t move much,
but was their guidance,
enabling their flight
whether they knew it or not.
