Gift

The rising moon may be the least of it,
grand though it is, between the firs
across the fields

The rising of hope may be a greater thing,
and the sense of purpose and delight,
and the intuition
that where we find each other
is in a different place
from where we are offended –
that, indeed, offense cannot be possible
in the innocence of being what we are,
the gift to all of us our being brings.

Nature and importance

Within my thought
and possibly to someone else,
I’m trying to convey
the nature and importance
of my innocence

The nature  – in my thought,
it rockets up the sides of trees
and down along the roots,
it darts and pulses with the flow of energy,
and it can do no harm, for it’s defined
within the very impulse
that brings it forth

And as for its importance  –
it frees me from the minefield of regrets,
it lets me know that I am whole,
and always have been,
it shows me, in this moment,
how to be.

The innocence of the world

Streaks of light
and the fact of innocence
shine clear when all the lies are gone

And people find it’s not too late
for trading in their hard bought worldly views,
the savvy of the turning cogs of wickedness,
and rolling with them to come out on top

Far better the transparency
of simple justice, seeing the worth
of every living being,
the recognition
of how we’re blessed by each of us,
the loss to all of throwing anyone away

It isn’t a hard sell, for everyone
has longed for this. Each one who takes a stand
helps bring it forth –
the innocence defining each of us,
truth that’s been waiting for us all along.

Free to ring

Little one, today you are free
of the choice you made
so long ago, when your body
was way too small
for such decision
and you were way too new
for that kind of burden

It was a lie, the need to choose  –
you really could have had
all the good, and you still can –
you are free from every threatened consequence

You always have been a clear chime,
and no slipped felt could ever dull your tone.
Today, you can feel your full resonance,
today you are free to ring.

Remember

Try to remember
when the demons howl at you
that you have the right
to remain silent. You are not required
to defend yourself, to be drawn in
to their nets of intimation

Try to remember
that we are here for you,
and we can vouch for your innocence,
we can vouch for your worth

And even though you may succumb
to many tears at their taunts, you will find
that the truth about you
lets you leave them in the dust
as soon as you remember.

Prospect

We find you innocent,
and the prognostication
of a long horrid journey
falls away

And the notion of yourself
just discovered to be
a fearsome monster
with many a rage
for which to pay
turns out to be a dream

We shake ourselves free
from troubling illusions  –
we seek refuge
in what guarantees your being,
we get used to the prospect
of not being afraid,
not now,
and not ever again.

Redeeming Innocence

I am here to redeem innocence.
Here to bring it out
from the infantile privilege
that has no notion of the cruelty exacted
on others to insure its rosy ease

Here to redeem it from the blind belief
that dutifully obeys, does what it’s told,
and thinks, thereby, to claim the promised joy

I am here to bring innocence through
the layers of separation
from the earth,
from honest work,
from the instinctive universal kinship
concealed by lies for far too long

To place innocence where it belongs,
where we are not guilty
of blindness or manipulation,
of willful ignorance or shallow bliss,
where we are neither duped nor dastardly,
where knowing all the truth has set us free.

Fully Clear

And if you need to stand up
in a crowded room
and speak for yourself,
if you need to be witnessed,
if you have done so, many many times
in the theater of your mind

Then the least I can offer
is a sympathetic ear,
an acceptance free of judgment,
a starting point that everyone deserves,
a place your innocence can surface,
can find its focus,
can come fully clear.

The Innocence of Breath

I wanted to return
to the mingling of molecules,
the way the essential oils
you rubbed on you at the beginning of the practice
ended up in my clothes, in my hair.
I wanted to feel the comfort
in breathing as one,
in mixing our breath,
in sharing the intimacy
of one experience together

I don’t want this to be forbidden.
I want to reestablish
the innocence of breath,
the wholesomeness of closeness,
the fact of our sovereignty
excluding any hate or thinking evil
about each other, any way
to do each other harm.

For the Defense

I will protest the innocence
of every burdened soul,
however young or old,
who wakes with dread,
who meets the hours
in sinking sense of debt,
who thinks of years
in washes of regret

Those allegations
never pertained to you,
you children of the light —
you have been ever fueled
by something unindictable.
Your being is comprised
of an essence so radiant
it will shine you
right out of all the frames
into unspotted day.
